L. M. (“Mark”) Weeks founded South Fork Publishers on the belief that remarkable stories deserve remarkable craftsmanship.
An attorney, novelist, and championship fly angler, Mark has spent his career exploring worlds where precision matters, both in writing and on the water.
Born in Alaska and raised in Idaho, Mark began fly fishing as a child, learning the sport alongside his father and grandfather. What started on mountain lakes with trout eventually carried him across the globe, from steelhead rivers in New York to saltwater fisheries throughout Asia and the Caribbean. Today, he is a three-time tarpon tournament Grand Champion, a multiple fly-rod world-record holder, and former chairman of the Don Hawley Invitational Tarpon Fly Tournament.
His fiction grows from the places he has lived and the people he has met along the way. Bottled Lightning, his bestselling debut novel, draws on decades of life in Japan and international law. Poontown emerged from years spent on the tournament circuit, where, as the saying goes, people will tell you things on a skiff they’d never tell their therapist.

Professionally, Mark practiced international law in New York before relocating to Tokyo, where he spent more than a decade as managing partner of the Tokyo office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. Fluent in Japanese, he has advised technology companies from around the world on intellectual property, fundraising, mergers and acquisitions, and cross-border disputes.
